“In The Understory-Pine Marten” 2019
I spent an afternoon a few years ago in the company of a pine marten. I was sitting in a ground blind in the heavy undergrowth of a nearby forest, watching the world go by. This small catlike marten amused me all afternoon, alternatively hunting, lounging, taking naps. At one point he “draped himself over a branch, leopard style. I was fascinated and was very careful with my movements and he never did see me hunkered down mere feet from him. A truly remarkable little animal, rather like a cat on amphetamines!
